Friday Harbor on San Juan Island, the busiest of the San Juan Island chain north of Seattle, is a popular destination, especially in the summer. A flight from the Seattle area in a typical piston single is only about 45 minutes, and you can easily walk into town and the harbor from the airport.

After checking the avionics with an ILS at Hoquiam (KHQM), I made a short hop to Bremerton (KPWT) west of Seattle, to top off the fuel tanks. The most challenging VFR arrival at Boeing Field (KBFI) is the Vashon Arrival, used for aircraft approaching from the west when runways 32L and 32R are in use. You must descend below two Class B shelves and then fly a tight left downwind at 700 ft over the Duwamish River. On this MVFR day, Boeing Tower sequenced me between two 737 arrivals; just another day at KBFI.
